Ervin Laszlo - The Law of Connectivity and the Akashic Field

The Law of Connectivity and the Akashic Field

Imagine a vast, invisible network that connects every particle, thought, and moment in existence. This is the essence of the Akashic Field, a concept that has captivated mystics and scientists alike for centuries. But what if this field isn’t just a mystical notion, but a fundamental aspect of reality that governs the very fabric of our universe?

Ervin Laszlo, a renowned systems theorist and philosopher, has dedicated his life to exploring this profound idea. In his groundbreaking work, Laszlo draws upon the ancient Vedic science of the rishis to formulate a science of the Akashic field. These ancient seers viewed the Akashic dimension as the fundamental dimension of reality, transcending the familiar elements of air, fire, water, and earth.

“The Akasha contains the laws and habits that govern the physical world,” Laszlo explains, painting a picture of a universe far more intricate and interconnected than we ever imagined.

The Law of Connectivity

Laszlo’s theory is based on the Law of Connectivity, a principle he associates with the Akashic field. This law accounts for the interconnection of all things with all other things, suggesting a universal interconnection in space and time that defies our conventional understanding of reality.

The concept of interconnectedness is not new. In fact, it’s a perennial intuition that has echoed through various cultures and philosophies throughout history. But what sets Laszlo’s work apart is his bold assertion that quantum physics supports this ancient wisdom, providing a scientific basis for the interconnection of all things in the universe.

Nonlocality

Just a few decades ago, the concept of nonlocality—the idea that particles can instantaneously influence each other regardless of distance—was considered the domain of metaphysics, not science. It was a notion that even Einstein famously dismissed as “spooky action at a distance.” But the tides of scientific understanding have shifted dramatically.

Today, cutting-edge physics and paranormal research have firmly placed nonlocality in the domain of science. Experiments in quantum entanglement have repeatedly demonstrated that particles can indeed influence each other instantaneously, even when separated by vast distances. This phenomenon, once relegated to the realm of philosophy, is now a cornerstone of our understanding of the quantum world.

Laszlo takes this concept even further, referring to the universe as a “nonlocally whole macroscopic quantum system.” In other words, he suggests that the entire universe operates as a single, interconnected quantum entity, where the principles of nonlocality apply not just to subatomic particles, but to the cosmos as a whole.

The Holographic Universe

To truly grasp the implications of the Akashic Field and the Law of Connectivity, we must radically reshape our understanding of the universe. Laszlo thusly translates the quantum view of the universe:

“The world is not an arena for the movement of solid, indivisible particles in passive space and indifferently flowing time. This is not a world of separate and separable parts, where things occupy single positions in space and time. It is not a complex mechanism fashioned out of matter. If we are to define it with a single concept, we would say that the world is a hologram.”

This holographic principle is more than just a metaphor. All information within a hologram is present at all points. Similarly, Laszlo posits that all of the information that codes our universe is available at all points in the system. This information, which makes the universe what it is, is both spatially and temporally nonlocal, present in every particle and every organism.

Physical Reality as an Illusion

A major implication of this holographic view is that the world is not material. In fact, physics has never found anything in space and time that constitutes a material substance in the traditional sense. Rather, physics demonstrates that energy and information comprise all “matter”.

What we perceive as “materiality,” states Laszlo, is just a configuration of “informed energy.” Laszlo fashions the universe as running onin-formation,” a term first conceived by physicist David Bohm.

Bohm defines “in-formation” as information transfer that occurs without the transference of what we normally think of as energy. It’s an active impulse that acts on and in-forms things and events without conveying energy in its normal form. Laszlo elaborates:

“In-formation is a ‘nonvectoral’ dynamic impulse at the core of the universe. It forms all things; in fact, it forms the universe. It is what makes the universe truly what it is, a sphere of coherently structured configuration of in-formed energy, and not a random swirl of inert gases.”

This concept of in-formation, claims Laszlo, aligns with the classical idea of a vital impulse that gives form to the external world. It suggests an immense, unseen impetus that both operates within and transcends the manifest physical universe. As Max Planck, the father of quantum theory, famously commented, this immense unseen impetus suggests a higher intelligence as its source.

A Holographic Virtual Reality

If our physical reality is shaped by in-formation rather than solid matter, what does this mean for our everyday experience of the world? Laszlo proposes a startling possibility: what we call “physical reality” is an illusion. At least two factors produce the apparent “solidity” of the material world, making it an illusion.

  1. Our limited sensory knowledge.
  2. Physical existence intelligently encodes a vast amount of energy and information to make it appear “real”.

In essence, you might view this idea as a kind of holographic virtual reality. Our physical universe, according to Laszlo, is merely a local and temporary domain of the infinite and eternal Kosmos written about by the Greek philosophers.

The Quantum Field

The idea of a universal field that connects all things isn’t just a philosophical concept—it’s deeply rooted in modern physics. Laszlo points out that Yang-Mills theory, a cornerstone of particle physics, painted a picture of particles as interconnected manifestations of a universal field. This mirrors the ancient Vedic seers’ conception of the Akasha as a dimension of the cosmos with field-like properties.

Laszlo posits that quantum physics presents a world in which “separate” things are actually excitations in a universal field. Objects are not separate entities, but interconnected aspects of a larger whole. This interconnection manifests in the quantum world as nonlocal correlation between all of its elements, a phenomenon known as “entanglement.”

Holographic Nonlocality

Laszlo believes that the reason we see such nonlocal connections in the physical world is because the physical world is a holographic projection of the Akashic field. Each of its parts contains information about the entire creation as a hologram. This holographic principle, according to Laszlo, best explains the nonlocality that is an intrinsic aspect of the universe.

According to this view, what we typically see as separate entities are just holographic projections of the Akashic field, which itself is a hologram. This concept not only aligns with ancient wisdom traditions but also offers a compelling explanation for the mysterious quantum phenomena that continue to puzzle scientists today.

The journey to understand these concepts is far from over. As we continue to probe the depths of quantum physics and explore the insights of ancient wisdom traditions, we may uncover even more profound truths about the nature of reality. The Law of Connectivity and the Akashic Field invite us to embark on this journey of discovery, challenging us to expand our understanding of the universe and our place within it.

In the end, perhaps the most profound implication of these ideas is the recognition of our fundamental unity—not just with each other, but with the cosmos itself. As we contemplate the vast, interconnected web of existence suggested by the Akashic Field, we may find ourselves echoing the words of the ancient Vedic sages: “Tat tvam asi” – “Thou art that.” In recognizing our connection to the universal field, we may discover that we are not just observers of the cosmic dance, but integral participants in the grand symphony of existence.
